Creative Retreat

Mid- June saw the annual retreat for the staff of Havelock Physiotherapy happening out at Waimarama. This year the topic was Creativity. Our facilitator was Wayne Morris from Future Edge Ltd.  Wayne from Taranaki is an artist/musician and runs a consultancy which specialises in “Leading , Learning and Creating”.

You can imagine the unease and confusion we felt at the choice of topic! However Anne assured us that this was a wonderful opportunity. She said it would be good for creative and lateral thinking, positivity and communication. “Creativity is not necessarily the ability to draw, paint or play music – it can also be defined as the ability to cope with change in a positive and imaginitive way, being able to see opportunities and to accept the challenge of embracing them” – she assured us!

Anyway, it would seem she was right – at least with it being a wonderful opportunity. We had a great time and came away a lot more knowledgeable than before we went. We learned more about ourselves and our personality types- this can be a mixed blessing – but it certainly helps us to be more understanding and tolerant. We also learned that we are all very similar so no excuse for not being understanding and tolerant! We now understand more about types of learning and communication, right and left brains and whether we have balance in our lives. All great tools for life – for working with our patients, with each other and for managing our families.

We did do some painting, some drawing and plenty of acting – we thought we were quite talented actually, particularly with the upside down drawings! We have all made plans to include more creativity and time for ourselves in our busy lives. 15minutes per day for 30 days will set the habit, so Wayne assured us. The jury is still out on some of the more nebulous and high reaching goals but there is no doubt we feel more knowledgeable and open to what life will offer us.

We can highly recommend Wayne as a great guy – positive, easy going, supportive and encouraging. We felt totally accepted and enjoyed and “blossomed and basked creatively” under his genial eye.
