Osteoporosis

Here at Havelock Physiotherapy we provide management for Osteoporosis, designing individual programmes to suit specific needs.

Our assessment will address

  • Risk factors
  • Flexibility
  • Strength
  • Balance
  • Fitness
  • Functional difficulties

Our programme includes educating you on bone health, how to reduce the risks of falls that often result in fractures and the use of exercises that are proven to:

  • Increase bone density
  • Strengthen muscles
  • Improve mobility and balance
  • Improve posture
  • Improve Cardio-vascular fitness

We offer advice and exercise to those in their pre- to early puberty years. Exercises involving high impact loading at this age increases the laying down of bone mineral and bone strength by up to 25%, It is interesting to note the amount of bone mineral we lose in a life time is similar to the amount laid down in the adolescent years,

The use of medication for osteoporosis is not sufficient to benefit everyone and all medication has side effects.  Exercise is a vital component for management of this condition. We provide a programme to not only complement medication, but to empower you with skills and knowledge to influence your own bone and physical health.

Disability comes from fall and fractures. Improved strength, flexibility, balance and fitness and understanding will reduce risks of fractures, giving you more confidence and control over your quality of life
