Management and Reception

Anne O'Donnell

    • Jeremy, Havelock North
I have been a patient of Anne’s for over fifteen years. During that time I have been regularly treated for a variety of injuries. On every occasion Anne has been able to help me. I trust Anne and will always recommend her to others requiring physiotherapy treatment.

NZ Registered Physiotherapist: Diploma Manipulative Therapy: Certified Bradcliff Practitioner

I have had physiotherapy practices in Hawkes Bay for the last 22 years, beginning from working at home with small children, as many folk will remember.  Education and learning have been and remain my passion and driving force. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have fallen into physiotherapy as a career and to still love it as much, if not more, than I did then. It has enabled me to have different areas of interest to keep me enthusiastic – from Manipulative Physiotherapy practise and teaching to Breathing Disorders and Chronic Pain – more holistic practises as I grow older and more patient!

I am also a member of Hawkes Bay Pain Assessment Services, a multi-disciplinary team which assesses and recommends management for people with chronic pain. I hold contracts to treat and rehabilitate people with major injuries and chronic pain.

However I still love the daily hands-on physiotherapy, and being there for the families and friends who have become part of our physiotherapy community. To me, physiotherapy is about caring about people.

Practice Manager

I have worked with Anne for the last 18 years, beginning as a part-time receptionist and now working as Practice Manager. I love my job and the contact with the public.  I have the opportunity in my job to meet many local people and feel part of the community. I also have the opportunity to indulge my creative side with floral art, which is a great passion of mine and I am able to brighten up our Reception are with floral designs.

My job is varied, interesting, stimulating and sometimes frustrating, but the team  I work with make it a wonderful place to be five days a week.

Leanne Wait

    • Paula
I started seeing Leanne for ongoing back pain, which I have had for several years due to a lot of heavy lifting. I had tried several physiotherapists and chiropractors previously but have had no positive long term results. But within 4 -6 weeks of therapy with Leanne, I felt better than I had in years.

With my back pain also came the weakenng of my pelvic floor. For years, I was never shown correctly how to strengthen them, but armed with the proper knowledge from Leanne, they are practically like new again.!

Leanne has a great demeanour and her experience and skill have proven vital towards my recovery. I have no hesitation in referring friends to seek treatment from Leanne and I will most certainly return there if I have any more problems in the future.

NZ Registered Physiotherapist: Diploma Manipulative Therapy

I moved to Hawkes Bay after graduating and initially worked in rest homes, then in the public hospital. I moved into Private Practice 3 years later and moved to work with Anne 12 years ago when I commenced my Diploma of Manipulative Therapy. At age 14, I became interested in the profession and have remained committed to seeing physiotherapy as a unique opportunity to positively affect peoples’ lives. I love the many and varied facets of physiotherapy and meeting so many interesting people.

My specialty interests are Continence Management – as applied to women, men and children – and Vertigo.  I am a member of the Women’s Health special interest group. However I still love treating and rehabilitating all other muscuoskeletal problems and injuries and have a particular interest in retraining those with tendon injuries – an area often overlooked when trying to achieve a successful return to sport.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to live and work in such a fabulous community.

Sally Harker

    • Jude Hill
Sally has been treating me for a back injury that I incurred in April this year while stacking firewood. Prior to being treated by Sally, I had been seeing my chiropractor for around three months who manipulated my back. However there was no noticeable improvement.

When I made my appointment with Havelock Physiotherapy, I was at my wits’ end with the pain which extended down my sciatic nerve into my left leg.

Since being treated by Sally, she has not only advised me as to how to manage the injury, she has also given exercises to strengthen my back and relieve pain, plus she has provided me with preventative healthcare advice. The improvement in the injury to my back is huge and I am extremely grateful to her.

I have been fortunate to receive my present treatment under ACC at no charge, however should there be a future need for your Practice to charge an ACC co-payment, I would have no hesitation in paying for the treatment. At the end of the day, I was paying for the treatment that I received elsewhere and did not get the result that I have had from Sally!

      Thank you for your service.

NZ Registered Physiotherapist: Diploma Manipulative Therapy

Since marrying and moving to Hawkes Bay I have worked predominantly with Anne. I have also run a small rural practice in Elsthorpe while having a young family.Working here, I feel privileged to work with colleagues who practise with high levels of skill and commitment to on-going professional development.

My speciality interests are spinal care – I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Manipulative Therapy.

Working in a community such as Havelock North means we treat a high proportion of the more mature in our society – which has led to my researching and updating on the latest information regarding osteoporosis treatment and management. In a field where people feel very vulnerable, there are many management options to take, particularly with prescribing the ideal exercise protocols.

I also have special interests  in Muscle Imbalance and Sporting Physiotherapy with shoulder rehabilitation being of  particular interest to me. I am involved in rehabilitation for Chronic Pain patients and for those recovering from more complex injuries. Working with them as they return to work and/or a much higher level of function in life is extremely satisfying.

Beth Averill

    • I have suffered from fibromyalgia and arthritis for many years with ongoing pain in all my joints particularly in my neck and upper and lower back.Over the years I have had treatment of different sorts, but my pain has been unrelenting.
When I started to see Beth, she noticed that I had developed a very poor breathing pattern due to the stress and constant pain I was in..

Beth taught me to change my breathing pattern and has also taught me skills to improve relaxation, sleeping and breathing with exercise. These skills have made a huge difference to me in that I now feel empowered to control my pain and stress levels and in doing so, my ongoing pain has settled dramatically.

I would definitely recommend anybody who is suffering with these sort of ongoing problems to see Beth for her advice and breathing and relaxation.

NZ Registered Physiotherapist: Certified Bradcliff Practitioner

I have been working at Havelock Physiotherapy and in clinics around Hawkes Bay for many years now – initially as a new graduate at Hastings Hospital. Recently I lived in Gisborne for 3 years and while living there I worked as a community physiotherapist which made me adept at using my skills in some fairly unusual environments.

I am a Certified Bradcliff Breathing Practitioner which enables me to treat a huge variety of people with breathing disorders and associated conditions. Every afternoon, I am at Iona College or Woodford House working with the girls. I  really enjoy this part of my day and particularly love treating children and teenagers with their various problems ranging from sports injuries to problems associated with growing.

I very much look forward to continuing to develop and enhance my skills as a physiotherapist and am absolutely rapt to be able to do so in the supportive, enthusiastic and fun environment of Havelock Physiotherapy.

    • Testimonial for Pink PilatesI have been relieved from the dreadful pain in my arm which was preventing me from living normally. It was really getting me down.Pink Pilates has opened my eyes to the reality of my situation and how it have such a positive effect on a woman’s physical and mental well-being. It has had a huge impact on my recovery after three lots of surgery.I realise that all the exercises I have learned I must continue to use for the rest of my life.It is an awesome programme. Thank goodness we have it here in NZ. I thought I wouldn’t need extra help with my recovery as I’m relatively young and fit. How wrong I was! I wouldn’t be where I am, doing what I’m doing today without the help of this amazing programme and my amazing physiotherapist, Julie.Thank you so much. I just hope that other women out there who are struggling with pain get to know they can be helped like I was.

NZ Registered Physiotherapist: Pink Pilates Provider

I am a King country girl originally. I trained in Auckland and worked in hospitals there before opening my own practice. I then moved to the Hawkes Bay with my husband. I had a 2 year spell away from the area with the family living in Keri Keri and working part-time. I returned to work again for Anne when she took her overdue spell away to Europe and am still here. Although we live in the Napier area,  I choose to travel to Havelock North in order to work with a team who are as passionate about the high standard of care for people as I am.

I have a special interest in Soft Tissue treatment and in carrying out treatment and rehabilitation of breast cancer patients.  I feel privileged to care for these women.

I bring a broad experience of physiotherapy and a holistic approach to the Practice and all the patients I care for.
